How direct billing works for physio, massage and chiro
With direct billing, the clinic sends your claim to your insurer at your visit, so you pay only the part your plan doesn't cover instead of paying in full and waiting to be paid back. Here's what to bring and what to expect.
BreakThru Kinetics ·
What direct billing means
Without direct billing, you pay for your visit, send the receipt to your insurer, and wait to be paid back. With direct billing, the clinic sends the claim to your insurer at your visit. Your insurer tells the clinic what it will pay, and you pay the rest, if there is any.
What to bring
- Your benefits card, or your plan's group number and your member or certificate number.
- The plan member's name, if the plan is through a spouse, partner or parent.
- A doctor's referral, if your plan asks for one for that kind of care.
What direct billing can't change
Direct billing changes how the claim is sent, not what your plan pays. If your plan pays a share of each visit, you pay the rest at the clinic. If you've reached your yearly maximum, the insurer won't pay for the visit. And some plans don't accept direct billing for every kind of care.
If your plan year is ending soon, here's how to check what you have left.
