How ICBC covers massage after a crash
ICBC pre-approves 12 massage therapy visits in the first 12 weeks after your crash. You don't need a doctor's referral or ICBC's approval first. You need your ICBC claim number and your Personal Health Number.
The 12 weeks count from the date of the crash, not from your first visit. ICBC's fee table sets a minimum of 45 minutes for a massage visit, and our ICBC massage visits are 45 minutes.

Your first visit
Your first ICBC massage visit is 45 minutes, one on one with one of our registered massage therapists. It starts with a conversation about what's going on and what you'd like help with.
Bring your claim number, your Personal Health Number and any reports or scans you have. Wear something comfortable, and come a few minutes early to fill in a short intake form.
Massage alongside other care
ICBC sets its pre-approved visits for each type of practitioner separately, so massage can sit alongside physiotherapy, active rehab or chiropractic care on the same claim. Our front desk can help you fit the visits together.
After the first 12 weeks

Do I need a referral?
No. ICBC says you don't need a referral from a family doctor or nurse practitioner, or approval from ICBC, for pre-approved treatment in the first 12 weeks. You need your claim number and your Personal Health Number.
How many massage visits does ICBC pre-approve?
12 visits in the first 12 weeks after the crash. After that, ICBC can approve more through your claim.
